    Acclaimed International Pianist Natalia Williams – Wandoch at St Mary’s

    Yatton Music Society is honoured to welcome acclaimed British-Polish pianist Natalia Willaims-Wandoch to St Mary’s. Natalia will present an evening of interspirational music featuring Debussy’s Estampes and L’isle joyeuse, Chopin’s Barcarolle, Szymanowski’s Mazurkas, Ireland’s Island Spell, and more, the concert will transport the audience to places known and less travelled.

    The concert starts at 7.30pm at St Mary’s Church Yatton. Tickets £8 YMS members, £10 non-members. Tickets can be obtained from the Church office or on the door on the night. For further details please contact David Ford, Yatton Music Society.

  • Les Davis MBE ‘Orchard Day’

    Les Davis MBE ‘Orchard Day’

    Have you always wanted to know how to prune trees properly? Would you love to have a productive orchard in your garden but don’t know where to start?

    Orchard expert Les Davis MBE will be hosting a special ‘Orchard Day’ on Saturday 8th February where participants will learn all aspects of pruning and tree maintenance. Starting off with coffee in Congresbury Old School Rooms at 10am, the day will cover the history, propagation and management of apple trees, use of pruning tools and different methods of pruning, plus demonstrations of grafting and budding. The group will also visit the Congresbury Orchard on Millennium Green to discuss tree and grassland maintenance and get ‘hands on’ with dome of the trees in The Paddock.

    Course notes and a DVD to take home will be supplied. There’ll be a break for lunch (please bring your own) and the day will finish after tea at 3.30pm. Tickets £25. Please contact Ally Jones 07814 155703 to book.

    Congresbury Gardening Club

    Congresbury Gardening Club are delighted to welcome David Usher who will talk at the February meeting on ‘something old, something new’. David is responsible for the restoration of the Hestercombe Gardens and has had a very successful and varied gardening career.     There will be another talk for Congresbury Gardening Club on Thursday 12th March by guest speaker Helen Yemm, broadcaster and Garden Writer. The talk will take place at 7pm at Shipham Village Hall and tickets cost £6. This is not one to miss!

    RNLI Winscombe Folk Night Featuring Jez Lowe

    RNLI Winscombe Folk are pleased to announce their next Folk Night, featuring singer, songwriter and acoustic guitarist Jez Lowe, will be on Saturday 1st February in St James’ Hall, 52 Woodborough Road, Winscombe, BS25 1BA. Jez received a double nomination in the 2015 BBC Folk Awards for best singer and best new song. His songs are among the most widely sung by other performers and he tours often, recently finishing a solo tour in America, and reuniting with his group “The Bad Pennies” for their December tour.

    Doors open at 7.15pm for performance at 8pm. There will be a cash bar selling wines, beers, cider and soft drinks. Tickets priced £12 may be obtained from James Barattini and all proceeds will go to Winscombe & District Branch of the RNLI.

  • Mendip Vale Wellbeing and Lifestyle Club

    Mendip Vale Wellbeing and Lifestyle Club

    Made up of enthusiastic volunteers led by Sue Fursdon, a senior practice nurse at Mendip Vale Practice, Mendip Vale Wellbeing and Lifestyle Club aim to encourage people to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing by making lifestyle changes.

    The club creates an informal atmosphere where they give help and information on a variety of lifestyle topics such as exercise, healthy eating, mindfulness, coping with anxiety and weight management.

    Sessions run on the 4th Thursday of the month at Yatton Methodist Hall 10 until 12. They provide tea/coffee before and after ‘talks’ and encourage people to come along to chat and meet others. Donations for refreshments are welcome.

  • Churchill Music Young Musician of the Year

    Churchill Music Young Musician of the Year 2020

    On 27th January 2020, from 6-8pm, advanced music students at Churchill Academy will compete for generous cash prizes of Churchill Young Musician of the Year and the Ursula Dornton vocal prize kindly sponsored by Trinity Singers, the opportunity to perform at a special showcase concert at St George’s Bristol, and the special ‘Audience’ trophy. The standard is high, and the atmosphere thrilling. The chair of the judging panel this year will be their patron Peter Donohoe CBE. With delicious nibbles in the interval supplied by Churchill Music, the popular event promises to brighten even the chilliest winter evening.

  • Congresbury Singers’ Christmas Concert

    Congresbury Singers will be performing their popular annual Christmas concert in St Andrew’s Church at 7.30pm on Tuesday 17th December. As usual this will be a fusion of seasonal, traditional, and light-hearted readings, music and carols.

    Judging by previous concerts, it is guaranteed to be an entertaining and inspiring start to the festive season, so early booking is advised. Join the Singers for mince pies, a glass of wine and plenty of chat following the performance. Tickets cost £8 (children free) and can be obtained in advance from Congresbury Post Office, members of the choir or pay on the door.

  • Messy Church Christingle

    On Sunday 8th December there will be a fun filled festive celebration beginning at 3pm at Yatton Methodist Church for crafts and games followed by a procession to St Mary’s Church for 4.30pm Christingle Service. At 5.15pm there will be hot dogs, cake, mulled wine and squash. This event is particularly suitable for children aged 0-12 years and their friends and family.

    Yatton Horticultural Society will be hosting their final talk of 2019 on 19th December at Yatton bowling club at 8pm. They have “Cork and Fork” coming to give a wine and cheese tasting evening. Admission will be £2 for members and £2.50 for non-members. Come along for what promises to be a delightful way to welcome the festive season.

    Yatton Horticultural Society would like to wish all their members and helpers a very happy Christmas and a healthy New Year for 2020. There is no meeting in January.
