    Congresbury Singers Easter Concert

    Following on from their popular Christmas concert, Congresbury Singers will perform their annual Easter concert on Saturday 28th March 2020 at 7.30pm in St Andrew’s Church, Congresbury.

    The concert will feature the debut of ‘A Congresbury Passion’ put together by their musical director Gordon Pullin. This is a medley of extracts from famous and familiar pieces which together tell the everlasting Easter story in a beautiful choral setting. Handel, Bach, Maunder and Stainer, all will be featured.

    Tickets will cost £8 including refreshments and can be obtained in advance from Congresbury Post Office or pay on the door.

    Bristol Brass Consort

    This wonderfully talented Bristol ensemble will be coming to St Mary’s Church, Yatton, on Saturday 28th March. Their performances have a lively repartee, touched with humour and personality to delight audiences. For this concert their music will cover an international range of composers from Vivaldi and Shostokovitch to Scott Joplin and Gershwin.

  • Churchill Music – Jess Gillam

    Churchill Music – Jess Gillam

    Jess Gillam will be performing a varied recital with Zeynap Özsuca, described by Sir Simon Rattle as “one of today’s great ensemble pianists”. The concert will take place at All Saints Church, Wrington, BS40 5LB, on Saturday 7th March from 7.30-9.45pm (doors open 7pm).

    Jess Gillam is the first ever saxophonist to reach the final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year. She has appeared extensively in recitals throughout the UK and abroad. She wowed millions of viewers at the BAFTAs ceremony in February 2019. Jess programmes and presents shows on TV and radio – she is even the youngest BBC presenter ever.

  • Quiz Night in Congresbury

    Quiz Night in Congresbury

    On Thursday 12th March, in the Methodist Hall, Congresbury, there will be a fundraising Soup and Puds lunch, only £5 for homemade soup and pudding, and tea or coffee. This will be served from 12 noon, last orders at 1pm. There will be a raffle, produce stall and good company. All proceeds go to Children’s Hospice South West.

    Acclaimed International Pianist Natalia Williams – Wandoch at St Mary’s

    Yatton Music Society is honoured to welcome acclaimed British-Polish pianist Natalia Willaims-Wandoch to St Mary’s. Natalia will present an evening of interspirational music featuring Debussy’s Estampes and L’isle joyeuse, Chopin’s Barcarolle, Szymanowski’s Mazurkas, Ireland’s Island Spell, and more, the concert will transport the audience to places known and less travelled.

  • Les Davis MBE ‘Orchard Day’

    Les Davis MBE ‘Orchard Day’

    Have you always wanted to know how to prune trees properly? Would you love to have a productive orchard in your garden but don’t know where to start?

    Orchard expert Les Davis MBE will be hosting a special ‘Orchard Day’ on Saturday 8th February where participants will learn all aspects of pruning and tree maintenance. Starting off with coffee in Congresbury Old School Rooms at 10am, the day will cover the history, propagation and management of apple trees, use of pruning tools and different methods of pruning, plus demonstrations of grafting and budding. The group will also visit the Congresbury Orchard on Millennium Green to discuss tree and grassland maintenance and get ‘hands on’ with dome of the trees in The Paddock.

    Course notes and a DVD to take home will be supplied. There’ll be a break for lunch (please bring your own) and the day will finish after tea at 3.30pm. Tickets £25. Please contact Ally Jones 07814 155703 to book.

    Congresbury Gardening Club are delighted to welcome David Usher who will talk at the February meeting on ‘something old, something new’. David is responsible for the restoration of the Hestercombe Gardens and has had a very successful and varied gardening career.     There will be another talk for Congresbury Gardening Club on Thursday 12th March by guest speaker Helen Yemm, broadcaster and Garden Writer. The talk will take place at 7pm at Shipham Village Hall and tickets cost £6. This is not one to miss!

    RNLI Winscombe Folk Night Featuring Jez Lowe

    RNLI Winscombe Folk are pleased to announce their next Folk Night, featuring singer, songwriter and acoustic guitarist Jez Lowe, will be on Saturday 1st February in St James’ Hall, 52 Woodborough Road, Winscombe, BS25 1BA. Jez received a double nomination in the 2015 BBC Folk Awards for best singer and best new song. His songs are among the most widely sung by other performers and he tours often, recently finishing a solo tour in America, and reuniting with his group “The Bad Pennies” for their December tour.

    Doors open at 7.15pm for performance at 8pm. There will be a cash bar selling wines, beers, cider and soft drinks. Tickets priced £12 may be obtained from James Barattini and all proceeds will go to Winscombe & District Branch of the RNLI.

  • Mendip Vale Wellbeing and Lifestyle Club

    Mendip Vale Wellbeing and Lifestyle Club

    Made up of enthusiastic volunteers led by Sue Fursdon, a senior practice nurse at Mendip Vale Practice, Mendip Vale Wellbeing and Lifestyle Club aim to encourage people to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing by making lifestyle changes.

    The club creates an informal atmosphere where they give help and information on a variety of lifestyle topics such as exercise, healthy eating, mindfulness, coping with anxiety and weight management.

    Sessions run on the 4th Thursday of the month at Yatton Methodist Hall 10 until 12. They provide tea/coffee before and after ‘talks’ and encourage people to come along to chat and meet others. Donations for refreshments are welcome.
